When studying this circuit, one can imagine a current in the direction of the dotted arrow coming from the battery’s positive lead as it traverses the cable. The problem is: What is the current in point A when it comes to the junction?

Know that whatever current flows into a junction must also flow out as you contemplate your answer, because junctions do not store or otherwise “hide” the current. So when 1.5A flows into a junction, 1.5A needs to flow out.
